HERRIMAN: THE BAD

04-25-2008 KSL reports Herriman's government hiring family members and Mayor doubling as city manager. While this may have been ok or even needed years ago in Herriman's early days, Herriman Happenings calls for prompt action by the city council to keep order, professionalism and public perception in check. Please put forward moving ordnances in place to fix such issues, and as soon as possible get a distinct city manager to manage our city without such political conflicts. This will ensure good faith to residents. Also inside handed work needs to stop. The planning commission needs to clean the act or the City council needs to appoint a new planning commission KSL investigation

12-06-2004 Deseret News reports Herriman property taxes highest in Salt Lake County!
"Conventional wisdom is that people in more metropolitan areas pay more taxes, but that's not true in Salt Lake County. On average, Salt Lake City residents, at a rate of 0.01045, don't pay the most. Believe it or not, residents on the opposite end of the valley, in Herriman, pay the most, Richardson said, at a rate of 0.015356."

05-10-2004 Lawsuit perpetuates in conjunction of Herriman City purchasing Herriman Pipeline Company. Several shareholders of Herriman Pipeline Company accuse city officials of not compensating shareholders fairly as well as not informing shareholders of meetings/information. Also shareholders claim company leaders guilty of self-dealing and improper dealings. The Lawsuit is still in cycle. Several motions have been dismissed and an allotment of time has been given to give sides time for preparation for suite. Herriman city cites that the company was never established for profit purposes, and would have to increase rates to shareholders/citizens if more were paid for shares, according to South Valley Journal.

03-08-2004 Herriman and Riverton City Council meetings are under fire for their including of "thoughts, readings and invocations", according to the South Valley Journal. Utah atheists sent a letter to complain that such activities should not take place at council meetings. Herriman Happenings hopes "thoughts, readings and invocations" will continue in council meetings. To support this issue, please forward your thoughts to city officials.

09-16-2003 Herriman City is on the web and that is a good thing. But one thing that is missing is contact information for Mayor Crane and the city council members. How can we the people make a difference in our government, if the means to contact leaders is not available. Contact Herriman city and request that the city web site provides email or phone numbers to our mayor and council members.

09-16-2003 Herriman city has started charging a $5.00 fee to Herriman residents to help cover parks and recreation expenses. Interestingly enough in one of the recent Herriman news letters city officials declared they have not raised property tax rates in quite a while. What one may miss is that the new fee is really just the same as raising taxes. The fee is to everyone. It pays for what your taxes used to (park and recreation expenses). It seems to be a work around from the word taxes. If you add in your $60 yearly fees ( $5.00 X 12 months = $60 ) into our current Herriman tax equation we may be looking at a %15 to %20 tax increase. Contact our Herriman officals and ask them to drop the $5.00 fee. Ask them to be more efficient with our tax dollars.
